Tackle Malicious Arson With A Fire Tank

As police in Northumberland issued images of an arsonist who unwittingly set himself on fire, a fire tank expert was warning businesses not to be complacent when it comes to fire safety. The arsonist was caught on camera torching a workshop in Gateshead earlier this month. Footage shared by police shows his hands and clothes on fire.

A police spokesman said the fire is being treated as ‘malicious arson’. The workshop was on a farm and the culprit, who has yet to be identified, could be seen pouring a flammable substance on a door. He then became a human fireball. Police say they are certain the man would have suffered serious burns in the incident and have issued an appeal in a bid to locate him.

The rise of malicious arson attacks

Businesses, in particular, need to be aware of the dangers posed by malicious arson attacks. A spokesman for fire tank specialists Nationwide Water Solutions said: “This type of crime is on the rise and can prove very costly, as well as dangerous. Businesses that store large amounts of goods or who count machinery as assets should protect them, their building and people’s lives with automatic sprinkler systems.”

The spokesman added: “Industrial and commercial premises, particularly those on more than one level, should also invest in a fire tank. This will ensure that water is ready to fight an arson attack almost immediately. It is fortunate that, in the Gateshead incident, nobody else was injured. The fact is that many arson attacks take place at night when few people are around to raise the alarm quickly. Having the right equipment on standby will ensure that no time is lost in containing a fire.”

The Importance of Maintaining A Sprinkler Tank Contents Gauge

A sprinkler tank contents gauge plays an important role in helping you to monitor water levels in your fire tank. Consider it an early warning system that can indicate the presence of a leak. It will prompt you to take action to minimise water loss and more serious damage.

At Nationwide Water Solutions, we often refurbish or replace a contents gauge during sprinkler tank repair work. But you shouldn’t wait for something to go wrong before you act to repair a faulty, old or damaged piece of monitoring equipment such as this. We are here to help you keep your sprinkler tank and ancillary equipment in tip-top condition before a problem develops.

Dangers of ignoring a sprinkler tank contents gauge

A contents gauge should be regularly checked. An indication that the water level in your tank has dropped suddenly could suggest:

  • Corrosion
  • A perforation in the tank lining
  • Problem with valves

Help yourself to keep a close watch on sprinkler tank water levels effortlessly. Ensure your contents gauge is easily accessible so you can take readings quickly and conveniently. If you are worried your gauge is not working, seek advice immediately. This relatively low-cost piece of equipment provides long-term peace of mind and should be replaced if it is beyond repair.

Sprinkler Tank Business Comments On School Evacuation

A school in Bury was evacuated this morning after a fire broke out in a classroom. Sprinkler tank business Nationwide Water Solutions says firefighters have revealed the blaze most likely started in an electrical unit. It is not known if buildings at Tottington High School are fitted with sprinklers.

Nationwide Water Solutions is supporting efforts to encourage all schools to invest in automatic sprinkler systems. It says educational facilities, which can be vacant for long periods of time at weekends and during school holidays, are at a heightened risk of fire. Efforts to modernise post-war school buildings are on-going but many don’t include sprinklers.

Public buildings: need for a sprinkler tank business

A spokesman for Nationwide Water Solutions said: “We understand that three fire appliances attended the school this morning. The indications are that this is not a serious incident. However, any fire in a school should be a cause for concern. Because you can’t prevent every fire, it makes sense to invest in equipment that will stop one from spreading. Talking to a good sprinkler tank business will help you identify water storage needs for an individual site.”

On average, there are three fires every day in UK schools. Of those, around 75 per cent are deliberately started. The cost of school fires is steadily rising. The average response time to a fire in England and Wales last year was 8 minutes 45 seconds, according to official Government statistics.

The spokesman added: “Having water ready to fight a fire the moment it is detected is important if it is to be contained. The evacuation this morning was absolutely right. However, in the case of serious fires, the evacuation of large numbers of people can be hindered by lack of effective fire-fighting equipment.”

Sprinkler Tank Company: The Dangers of Disused Buildings

Disused buildings are especially vulnerable to fire. Sprinkler tank company Nationwide Water Solutions points to a blaze at a disused mill in Bradford. The four-storey building formerly housed an envelope business and was reported to be on fire yesterday (Tuesday).

More than 50 firefighters attended the blaze. Nearby residents were told to close doors and windows. Smoke from the mill could be seen more than three miles away. Black fumes were reported to be billowing into the sky. They were visible across the city. The scene is currently being ‘damped down’.

Countering fire risks with a sprinkler tank company

It may not be financially feasible for owners to equip disused buildings with state-of-the-art fire fighting equipment. However, property owners with premises located nearby should take action. If your business or public building is situated close to a vacant property, you need to consider the danger it poses to your assets.

Fires can spread quickly in areas where properties are located close together. A spokesman for Nationwide Water Solutions said: “Having a fully functioning automatic sprinkler system and finding a good sprinkler tank company is pivotal. While there is little you can do about a disused building, there is a lot you can do to protect your own. A sprinkler tank is especially important to ensure you tackle the first signs of a fire in your building with enough water.”
